“I do Have a Relationship with Putin” Trump 2013 Video
WASHINGTON, January 11, 2017–President-elect Trump took to Twitter early Wednesday morning to deny that he had any dealings with Russia. The Twitter rant comes after a Tuesday report by CNN that intelligence agencies had briefed President Obama and the President-elect last week about allegations that the Kremlin is in possession of sensitive financial and personal information regarding Trump and that close Trump surrogates maintained communication with Russian operatives during the presidential election. Buzzfeed then published a declassified version of the report.
Using his favorite method of communication, Trump vehemently denied the allegations in a series of tweets.
Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2017
Many find the assertion difficult to believe under mounting evidence of the contrary.
Trump may claim not to have any current deals with Russia, but as late as 2014 he was publicly claiming to be friendly with Vladimir Putin.
Trump held the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow in 2013, and was in Russia for the event. In an interview with Thomas Roberts at the time, Trump asserts “I do have a relationship with Putin,” while his eyes twinkle and he smiles wistfully.
In 2014, Trump talks about his 2013 visit to Moscow, saying he spoke “directly and indirectly with Putin, and he could not have been nicer.”
However, by 2016, Trump was telling the press, “I don’t know Putin.”
